Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule?

You can schedule here using this easy-to-navigate online scheduling calendar. If you have specific questions or are unsure if Woven Physical Therapy is a good fit for your physical therapy needs, you can also contact me and I will call you back for a free 10 minute phone consultation.

Where are you located?

Woven Physical Therapy is located inside the Pediatric Wellness Group office located at 100 Executive Drive, Suite B, Lafayette, IN 47905. You can enter directly into Suite B via the door in the rear of the building.

What should I expect at my first visit?

You do not need to arrive early for your initial appointment. You can complete your paperwork online that will be emailed to you once you schedule your appointment. Please come in comfortable clothing that allows access to your abdomen if need be (no rompers, bring shorts if wearing a dress). Footwear will be removed, so no need to worry about what shoes to wear.

Once you are welcomed and acclimated to the clinic, your physical therapist and you will move into a private space for your 90 minute initial evaluation and treatment. The therapist will go through a detailed medical history and listen to your concerns, goals, and expectations for physical therapy. They will then perform a full body movement and hands-on evaluation. This may or may not include an external and/or internal (intravaginal or intrarectal) pelvic floor examination; depending on your needs and comfort level. I will discuss what this entails in more depth in person at your appointment. It is ALWAYS your decision regarding what you are comfortable with.

Throughout the evaluation, I will be continuously discussing my findings to help you best understand what is contributing to your symptoms. The evaluation will seamlessly transition into hands-on interventions based on my findings. At Woven Physical Therapy, we do not believe in a “no pain, no gain” approach. Pain relief can be achieved with hands-on manual therapy techniques and appropriate movement training. These treatments are designed to improve mobility, strength, and reduce pain.

I know your time is valuable, so I will prioritize your goals and give you feasible and achievable “next steps” so you can be successful towards reaching those goals. Your physical therapy sessions will always be client-centered. It is all about you and making sure we create a team to meet your expectations for each session. I want you to feel comfortable and am happy to answer any questions you have regarding your treatment plan.

What is pelvic floor physical therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized approach that assesses the strength, coordination, and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles to address bladder, bowel, and sexual function. Common symptoms for someone with pelvic floor dysfunction may include urinary incontinence (leakage), urinary urgency/frequency, bladder pain, having to go pee frequently at night, recurring UTIs, constipation, painful bloating, abdominal cramping, pain with intercourse, painful periods, vulvar pain, and pelvic organ prolapse.

A skilled pelvic floor physical therapist is proficient in understanding how these muscles are interconnected with the bony pelvic girdle, spine, hip, sacroiliac joint, abdomen, and entire body as a whole. The pelvic floor muscles are often the missing piece in some persistent hip, sacroiliac, and spinal pain.

The male pelvic floor can be assessed externally or internally (intravaginal or intrarectal). Your therapist will discuss what this entails in more depth in person at your appointment. It is ALWAYS your decision regarding what you are comfortable with.

Do you accept insurance?

Woven Physical Therapy is an out-of-network practice, meaning that I do not bill insurance companies. This allows me to provide a much higher quality of care without influence from insurance companies. The majority of clients who choose the fee-for-service model for physical therapy have health insurance, but they choose this model of care because they receive higher quality therapy with fewer overall visits.

Upon request, instructions will be emailed to you to help guide you with learning about your out-of-network physical therapy coverage when you call your insurance company. I can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for physical therapy reimbursement. HSA/FSA cards are accepted.

How much do your services cost?

Our current rates are $237 for 90 minute initial evaluation & treatment, and $158 for 60 minute follow-up appointments. We accept HSA, FSA, debit and credit card, check, and cash.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

You are able to schedule an initial evaluation and treatment for physical therapy without a referral/script. Indiana law requires a physical therapy script within 42 days of initiating therapy. You can obtain a script from a physician, podiatrist, psychologist, chiropractor, dentist, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Additionally, if you plan to seek reimbursement from your insurance, your insurance provider may require a script prior to you beginning physical therapy in order for them to reimburse you.

Do you treat men?

Yes! I have experience treating men for persistent orthopedic conditions, complex pain conditions, and pelvic floor dysfunction. The male pelvic floor can be assessed externally or internally (intrarectal). I will discuss what this entails in more depth in person at your appointment. It is ALWAYS your decision regarding what you are comfortable with.

Will I need to get undressed?

Your choice! I can gain a lot of valuable information about your pelvic floor by doing both and external and internal (intravaginal or intrarectal) assessment. This assessment involves a gloved and lubricated finger inserted into the vagina and/or rectal opening. I will be able to assess the pelvic floor muscles for tenderness, muscle spasms, coordination issues, and strength deficits. It is ALWAYS your decision if you are comfortable having a pelvic floor muscle assessment. There are several external ways to treat most pelvic floor conditions; including visceral manipulation, abdominal soft tissue techniques, and treating the outer pelvic musculature of the hips and low back.

You are able to provide your own chaperone for your sessions if you would prefer. Chaperones are required for all pelvic floor treatments in clients under 18 years old.

Do I need to cancel my appointment when I’m on my period?

Nope. I can still treat the pelvic floor externally or internally while someone is on their period. If you do not want to do pelvic floor treatments while on your period, there are several external ways to treat most pelvic floor conditions. These treatments include visceral manipulation, abdominal soft tissue techniques, and treated the outer pelvic musculature of the hips and low back.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends! Typically, clients are seen weekly for four to six weeks to establish a treatment program and home exercise routine. Frequency beyond that will vary greatly depending on your diagnosis, severity of symptoms, your personal goals, and scheduling availability.

Can I come to physical therapy preventatively?

Of course! “The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining!” We could all use a bit of physical therapy in our lives! I believe that everyone can benefit from hands-on manual therapy and restorative exercises. There is always something new to learn about how your body moves. Many clients choose to come to physical therapy for wellness appointments to optimize their physical performance and avoid injury.

Do you offer off-site or mobile PT?

Yes! You can conveniently receive the same exceptional physical therapy services from the comfort of your own home. All mobile appointments must be approved and scheduled personally with your physical therapist. You are not able to set up a mobile appointment using the online scheduling calendar. Please contact us to see if you qualify for this option.

Do you offer Telehealth visits?

No, but I am happy to connect you with a physical therapist who does offer telehealth services if you that is what you seek.

What is visceral manipulation?

Visceral fascial manipulation utilizes a hands-on assessment looking beyond the musculosketal system for sources of pain and movement dysfunction. It utilizes gentle abdominal fascial releases to the organ systems. This can be especially beneficial with painful/irregular periods, bowel issues, abdominal pain and bloating, and bladder symptoms.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling involves inserting a thin/flexible monofilament needle into symptomatic tissue to reduce pain, promote healing, and improve function. Benefits from dry needling can be experienced immediately or over a few days to weeks. Dry needling is not Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. It is based on anatomy, neurology, and physiology. Dry needling is performed by a licensed physical therapist that has received additional training to appropriately perform this technique.
